09/14: Nice Job, Amigos

Friends.
Happy Monday to you, hope it was a good one. I for one am Garfield-eyed from the party hat vibes that ensued via the start of fashion week fun. The weekend had a lot of "hold your heart" moments as a batch of friends and R + F contributors displayed some really amazing work and talent.
First up was our chief video director Jessica Hundley, who traveled to NYC from the LA palm trees to celebrate the release and exhibition of Dennis Hopper's Signs of the Times gallery show. Lady Hundley edited/collaborated with Hopper and his gallerist, Tony Shafrazi - on an upcoming publication of his RAD photography work dating from 1961-67 from Taschen books. Clicketh here.
Here is a peek at the cover and a cute biker boy to boot...

Our other golden buds Maximilla Lukacs and Alia Penner have produced and directed along with Sarah Sophie Flicker an amazing little film being sharply screened every 15 minutes in TopShop called SPELL featuring Nina Persson (Cardigans) and Melisa Auf Der Maur as a badass witch. Check out these killer stills from the flick- great googlie mooglies its gorgeous! Pop over if you can this week-note there is free popcorn involved in the experience.

Some more fun to flag is this Wednesday when some dear starry designers come out to play dress up and I can wear crazy glitter capelets over my R + F gear without being stared at....well, maybe just not AS much.
From 3-5 pm, our good buddy and style adviser Alison Lewis will be having a presentation of her glamourous and easy to wear pieces for newbie collection LEWIS. I love this line-Ali's keen eye for mixing vintage with the contemporary is really unmatched.

...annnd finally ladies and gents I designed a limited edition poster for our other whopper of talent, Miss Pamela Love who will be having a sweet jam from 6 pm-8 pm at Milk Studios. Those that know me well are aquainted with the fact that I am rarely seen with out her memorable and awesome jewelry. Check out the Rotter-ized version of P's logo:

If you'll excuse me folks, there's a touch of wine left in the bottle, and Allen Touissant's Southern Nights record to be played for the millionth time.
Peacefrogs,
Jess

FRIENDS.
Excuse the ol' wisdom delay, the R + F camp were on the west coast for a bit enjoying some amazing jams, buddies, and taking a much needed life horizon.
Wanted to share a couple of fun linkers that ran this week.
I wrote a little ditty for the folks at NYC club Max's Kansas City in homage to legend Todd Rundgren's opus of a song, "International Feel". Check IT.
Special thanks to the rad people at Genart who launched a nice new site about inspirational women with whom I did a fun interview session...clicketh.
Also I must note, do buckle up- as the new gear will be arriving in October and we are SO overjoyed at how everything turned out. Have I mentioned the holiness of Badfinger is involved in the mix??
I leave you with a pic from a magic bus stop in Port Townsend, Washington the last stop on our trip. PT is a truly sparkling town where I met some amazing memorable characters and had great wine rappage with our awesome friends/hosts from Process Media, Jodi, Adam, and Emily. You can check out the readable wonders (and I mean WONDERS) they put out here.

Let's raise the coffee cups as the new fresh Fall Breeze makes it's way through the windows. Heres to new "books" and adventures for the new season. ; )

08/25: The Love of Link.

Friends.
Last night we lost a very magical person who was near and dear to us and one of the biggest supporters of R + F.
My good friend Josh Link was nothing but full of genuine smiles. He was my fifth grade dance partner, my hebrew school cut class chum, my skateboard buddy (though i didn't REALLY skate), and my proud date to the high school reunion. People loved this guy. He exuded a strong confident originality and didn't need to prove anything to anyone which is a charisma that shone through him to this day.
My fondest memories of Josh were in the days where Avenue A was a street you didn't tell your parents you were going, the city was a passion that became an addiction, the guys wore x-large, the girls wore x-girl. The parking lots of diners and Long Island shopping plazas were fodder for skating and exchanging mix tapes. The heavy tune interest led Josh to an exciting and successful DJ career. I loved giving him advice on psych/classic rock records and he'd pass on some juicy hip-hop/dance jams in return.

Mr. Link was also one of the first devoted customers and supporters to the world of Rotter and Friends, sporting his tees at DJ gigs and always attending our events and my art exhibitions with great pride. Sending lots of love to the family and friends-this was a loss that was shocking and heartbreaking.
Thanks for the legacy of good you left.

08/11: A Grand Entrance

FRIENDS.
As you probably gather, one of our favorite things here at R + F is seeing our tee shirts worn onstage, especially from bands we love and mutually support. So it put huge smiles on our faces to see our (Graham) Nash tee appear on our golden buds The Entrance Band's tour posters, worn by the amazing drummer Derek James.
Folks, this band. 'Tis a difficult thing to be influenced by so many different genres of the past, cerebral musical methods, rare world sounds and actually cook it up to a roaring genuine rock spirit that leaves the hair standing straight up and the heart pumping. The Entrance band are a special lot and if you haven't seen the mind blowing madness live-now's your chance. New Yorkers-come get a bangover with me on August 22nd at Santos and get stoked for their self titled album coming out September 1st.

ALSO Check out this rad video for Grim Reaper Blues off their first EP, that R + F contributor Maximilla Lukacs directed:
Entrance tour dates can be found HERE.

07/27: Fun with Edward Sharpe and The Magnetic Zeros

FRIENDS.
Wanted to share this poster I just finished for the lovely band Edward Sharpe and The Magnetic Zeros.
I met the magical gang a couple of years ago in the gorgeous desert of Marfa, Texas where they arrived on a massive bus straight from Los Angeles to play for the people. Sharpe and friends were the fun token band for the Marfa Film Festival playing a slew of shows that had such a warm nostalgic gospel feel to it-I was blown away. The sweet balance of the band and audience having the time of their lives is a hard vibe to come by and these guys pulled it off with genuinely awesome and kind clamor. They filled many smiles that weekend in the land of cactus flowers and now it's time to check them out on tour this month! New Yorkers can see 'em August 7th @ Mercury Lounge and DO seek out their debut album Up From Below. The cover rules to boot and was designed by R + F bud Peter Klein who shot this killer film of the band noodling around the Marfa terrain...(see below)

ps. was that creature inspired by Ralph Bakshi's masterpiece WIZARDS? duh!

Big Smiles.

Stoked to announce the first installment of R + F contributor Turquoise Wisdom's new show on Viva Radio!
One of the best musical horizon wizards out there, there is nothing like a selection of tunes by this dude, who we raise our coffee cups to for delivering the importance to the masses. Plus it's got Fleetwood Mac's Purple Dancer on there and you know how we feel about THAT. You can boogarize out to the jams spun live as TW will be the resident DJ on upcoming US dates with the great Fleet Foxes this summer.
Check out the fine episode here.

hey FRIENDS.
Wanted to share this new tee shirt print I illustrated for The Wallflowers who are touring this summer with their new greatest hits collection....catchy! Fittingly enough Jakob's dad, Mr. Bob Dylan is featured as one of the tees in our Spring/Summer collection in an ode to the heavy jam "All the Tired Horses" that still makes me wimper a little if enough whiskey and thoughts are filling the heart.
