11/12: Wiiiillld Life

Category: Rotter and Friends | Posted by: Team | Add comment
Gadzook island FRIENDS! I think Father Winter hit me in the face hard this morning as I couldn't see through my wind whipped hair and chattering teeth. A sight to be seen! Sorry, Wythe ave.

Heres a lil' SPIRIT EXERCISE to share as I relive the moment of a mission to get to the office through dramatic icey wind via one of my FAVORITE bluesy jams ever by Wings: Wild Life. This gem is off of the stellar Wings Wild Life album. Ingredients for the stroll: parka, tie dye scarf, something heavy on your mind, and a mini-mellowed hot chocolate (preferably spiked at this point).

Live footage version from '73 (plus some weird NYC imagery in there) of this tune-love it so much. It's one that's suitable for the repeat button..

FRIENDS.

What a SWEET Fall morning to be had. Thanks so much to the wonderful Mike Newman who invited me to hop onboard as a guest on his fabulous show Beyond Beyond is Beyond on East Village Radio today with psyche legend and music mogly genius Derek Schulman of Gentle Giant.

We jammed out to sparkly bearded wonder tunes and told some Fozzie bear jokes along the way. Thankfully the show is archived and available to listen to online HERE as the November 5th show. Make it a horizon and enjoy the weirdness. It was done with love and coffee.

Some fun pics my golden bud Katie took of the zany brainy times:

Ring the bells! Honk the horn! Yell in a conch shell! For at long last you can embrace the fields of new wares from Rotter and Friends!

Boy we are excited to share these designs, as a lot of heart has been poured into this collection. For Fall 09, we pay homage to Betty Davis, Ya Ho Wah 13, Jade Stone + Luv, and Badfinger! Don't know these artists? Dive in dudes! That's what it's all about.

I would like to thank my amazing "wonder men" for whom none of this would be possible without: Arron Bleasdale (Evergrowing Studio), Zach Cowie (Turquoise Wisdom), Hal Horowitz (photographer wizard), Jim David, and Sean Ingram (both from Blue Collar Press).

Special thanks also goes out to Isis Aquarian (The Source family), Stefan Kery (Subliminal Sounds), and our killer models: Pam, Brian, and Jordan.

I would also like to thank YOU. We have been getting really incredible emails of encouragement and inspiration more than ever recently, and now going into our sixth season, that really means a lot. Gratitude vibes all around + let's keep ramming on for new adventures.

Note there is now a link to purchase the album of each artist featured on their shop page. Forehead slaps! If you can believe it we SOLD OUT of our pre-order for the Jade Stone + Betty Davis flutter tees. It's a ruler/ bummer equally-we are on the case to get more in, so stay tuned.

Couple things to take note of for this week:

Super honored and stoked to be a guest this THURSDAY on fellow golden record head Mike Newman's Beyond Beyond is Beyond show on East Village Radio with Derek Shulman from prog-rock greats Gentle Giant-aaaaah! Tune in and turn on at 12:00 pm est for some psych muppetry HERE.

Also this Friday, November 6th my Betty Davis Moontune painting will be part of a musically inspired group show in Williamsburg @ 303 Grand Gallery. see below for ze deets.

10/28: Reich's Scribbleville

FRIENDS.

One of my favorite artists/cartoonists in the whole world is pretty unknown to most, but for over 20 years she has created some laff riot pieces with her funny pencil messies-ladies and gentleman, let me introduce you to.... Shari Reich.

I had the privilege of living next door + growing up with Shari who holds a pen like no other. She grasps that ink stick, sticks her tongue out, and draws like she has a mix of t-rex arms + hooves! Despite the awesome visuals of watching this maniac get down for her hilarious scribbles, some of her ideas have been a big inspiration to my work and Rotter and Friends in general. It started by making cartoons of our teachers and fellow peers but turned into some really awesome penmanship pieces. She is not in it for fame, for wealth, for cred, just a good chuckle and THAT is pretty rad. To this day, I haven't seen anyone get away with drawing a 'stache on animals like this. Check out the tributes to R + F she made below-we are honored!!

We also have some fun events to announce next week LIKE our new Fall collection launch, our guest appearance on East Village Radio's Beyond Beyond is Beyond show (November 5th), and one of my pieces will be in a music inspired group art show in Williamsburg (November 7th).

Stay tuned peoples.
