04/21: First Look at Natural Kitchen Book Nook

Category: Rotter and Friends | Posted by: Team | Add comment
FRIENDS.

I am beyond excited to share the first look at a special project I've been working on illustratin' for the past few months with the amazing folks at Process Media, who will be publishing The Natural Kitchen, a guide to the sustainable revolution (part of their self reliance series) available this October. The book is written by the profound Deborah Eden Tull, an organic farmer and former chef of self-sufficient Zen Monastery Peace Center in Northern California. Lady Tull draws on her experience to introduce good willed simple ways for urbanites to adopt a mindful and sustainable relationship with food. Been having a blast with this project as it is also my first proper book nook-check out the sneak peek'd veggie mandala cover...

Process Media means a lot to the soldiers of R + F, as their books are chock full of extreme inspiration, visual dimension hopping, and mind blowing facts. I am particularly excited for the book Starbody which also comes out in October and is written by the infamous Marfa-residin' David Hollander, who pieced together a cultural overview of intense New Age LP covers from the 1970s-my goodness, my GOODNESS.

Other notable releases currently available are Dear Andy Kaufman, I Hate Your Guts (a staple Rotter apartment party conversation piece), and of course The Source Family book which harped the call to our current Ya Ho Wha 13 tee shirts available in the shop. Big thanks to Isis Aquarian and the rest of the magical family for sharing their other worldy experiences with the masses.

Feeling a bit SPACEY on this fine Friday and thought I'd share a little galactic SPIRIT EXERCISE with you. Lots of really fun things + projects to announce in the next couple of weeks (get stoked for R + F in the Summer) but for today, have a nice bag of astronaut ice cream, put the Sagan book on your lap, and enjoy my favorite creepy star jam filled with muppetry, power, and weird vibes a plenty: "Five Miles Out" by Mike Oldfield. Even though this video is based on SKY levels, I personally feel more like having a drink on Jupiter.(Thanks to my brothers at Small Town Talk for this one years ago)

Check out this outer spaced air plant logo I designed for the great composer Matthew Abeysekera whose website will be launching later this month.

Just returned from a nice desert romp via the gorgeous landscapes of Marfa,Texas and it's surrounding abandon towns + tumbleweeds. Wanted to share some images of the calm...

Whether it's by the sea, or in sandy crackly terrain-there's nothing like seeing "No Service" on your phone and having the allowance to just..be.

After attempting to visit Clay Henry, the beer drinking goat of Lajitas who drinks to forget (apparently he is now retired), we drove through the wild havelina ridden roads of Tralingua Ghostown blasting this special JJ Cale song which pretty much always makes me well up in tears and feel weightless.

PS. Road Trips with car altars? a must.

Good Weekend wishes to you all.

03/12: The Rotters Spread Luv In NY Mag

Big gratitude vibes to the the amazing Piper Weiss + NY Magazine who reached out to include my fine parents in their just released Weddings issue! Piper, who wrote the piece is the author of the KILLER blog My Mom The Style Icon, which is a serious trove of fashion, inspiration, and "coffee at desk" horizons. "All About My Mother" includes some sweet 70's wedding photos from rad people including Ms. Chloe Sevigny. I have so much to say about this photo and what it means to me but I'll just let the magic speak for itself.

A Super Tuesday to you.

Mr. Barker is a holy mecca of wisdom specializing in one of my favorite musical genres of all time-70's Boot Cut Jams. About 5 years ago R + F DJ Turquoise Wisdom sent me this track with a disclaimer that I may have some serious owl eyes from it's power. Well, owl eyes forever- as I still get major goosebumps when I listen to this jam by another KEVIN with a surname, COYNE. There is nothing like listening to this as the Spring breeze approaches with hair hittin your face in a windowless car filled with buds and flasks.

You can most likely nab one of these tee-sers at a special gig this Thursday at Zebulon in Brooklyn!
ENJOY and do come Thursday to Zebulon if you can-we'll be djing classic rock bits and our chums OPEN OCEAN will be performing as well. Good time island indeed!
Thursday, March 11th

03/05: Finally, The Gold Has Been Found

Category: Rotter and Friends | Posted by: Team | Add comment
FRIENDS.

My knees are shaking like a newborn golden calf, as an open ended mystery that has racked my brain for YEARS has finally been revealed. First Carly Simon, now THIS. I originally heard this SCORCHER animal of a song on the Silas and Maria website (designed by our web wizard Arron Bleasdale). Since then with ram tipped cane in hand, I have scoured the internetz, phoned the greatest of record head'z I could think of, shazamed the globe, and had come up with nothing. After shedding great tears of question, Jill Bradshaw decided to help by enlisting killer artist Fergadelic whose great wisdom has finally fulfilled the quest, full circle.

I am so elated to present to you one of my favorite rippers ever, "Everything" by Luv Machine.

Sound the BELLS! Our good Friends at Anthology Recordings are re-launching their website today to a more tightly curated spectrum of fine exclusive rare content from their nostalgic vaults.

This harps a nice occasion, for I have been meaning to share this RARE video only available on the Anthology site from German wonderstoned popster Mr. Andy Goldner whose 1978 whopper Infinity is now available digitally and is a mix of penthouse meets metrostation jams. Please trust and watch the whole thing-it only gets better. Prepare to be severely cosmically confused.........in the best way possible! Click HERE.

Check out this Goldner collage -yes in the lower right corner he is INDEED holding a puppet of himself! Holding my hand to my heart, I received a treat amongst treats from Mr. Goldner who gifted yours truly with a personal note of wisdom on the LP. Thanks for making my month Andy!!

ALSO-Dear Uncle Freddy, it has been revealed, it was....David Geffen.

02/24: Dave Mason Magic

FRIENDS.

Time for a lil SPIRIT EXERCISE compliments of the great Dave Mason. My good friend Keith gave me the record Alone Together a couple years ago and its a pretty solid pull every time. I have happily created many a works to this album's soundz in the air. In addition to the sweet "stare at the river from a mountain" vibes the jams bleed, the die cut gatefold opens up looong to find Mr. Mason's head perched Mt. Rushmore style above the cliffs in a top hat. Genius? Correct.

My favorite zinger from the record is called "Look at You, Look at Me", but since It's not found on the 'tube-check out this fabulous gem called "World in Changes". Squeeze a lemon in some water, let the hair down, look out the window and get reflective....
