08/27: Take Us Away Mr. Indian and TIME

FRIENDS.
Time for one of the greatest turquoise'd horizons I can unleash to you. Many years ago my brothers from Small Town Talk put this jam on their killer dublab session "The Acid Eden" episode. Well as usual, i spilled coffee everywhere, fell on the floor, levitated with joy, and to this day used the song as a major frown remedy/beam maker. As much as I tugged their denim sleeves we could not find the digital file or full album anywhere. There is little to no information on the now passed on Mr. Indian aka Eugene Bialy whose psyche Paul Williams esque eagle chant rock went under the monker Mr. Indian and Time and released 2 albums, Morning Glory and Eagle Chanter. This is, the best. Enjoy this song and these amazing pictures of the band rocking out in a ..um..gymnasium??? Thanks Coach Largo for fulfilling some wonder...

Good Weekend vibes and RIP EB.

Turbo Iced coffee cups are raised today to the fabulous chief R + F collaborators Myriah and Nadia of NIGHTWOOD, who were featured in the NY Times today as they launch their 4,000 square foot Pop-Up shop today in Brooklyn. Check out the article HERE.
The design wizards have an opening tonight at the space from 6-9 pm-do check out the wonder and perhaps even the R + F six foot wide "Wild Horses" burn piece we made for the world, which is chock full of mind melting furniture, clouds, caves, pyramids, and teepee heaven. I first had pupil hearts with their work from these amazing salvaged wood credenzas they made for my friend Keith and later "Rotter Corner". The look of "wood filled with jams" is a true calm sight to behold. Our cluttered spaces below and another interior to share..

We are beyond stoked to have worked with Nightwood this season on our wood burn and block prints available now and are pleased to announce that I will be holding an exhibition of all of my wood burn pieces at the space on September 22nd along with a special popper vinyl shop by Co-Op 87 featuring limited edition specially priced rekkids by Mexican Summer, Captured Tracks, Minimal Wave, and Sacred Bones. This should be a really fun evening-heres a sneak peek of what I'm working on for the fun....lionz!

We will announce more about the show later on, but in the meantime the girls have curated some great events throughout the month. Full lineup can be found HERE.
Nightwood is at be@schermerhorn, 189 Schermerhorn Street (Hoyt Street); the entrance is around the corner on Livingston Street.

08/11: Takin' the Trip with STONE

FRIENDS.
Pretty elated to announce this special trippy event we are stoked to be a part of with our dear friends at B-Music/Finders Keepers, Chouette, and Viva-Radio to celebrate the screening of 1975's Australian biker movie STONE at Lincoln Center August 13th at 8:45 pm.

In addition to co-hosting the after party at Rose Live in Brooklyn (see flyer), R + F have collaborated with our holy musik guru Mr. Andy Votel on a limited edition hand numbered cassette tape filled with rare magical biker psyche jams a plenty. This is a rad nugget to own and available at our shop HERE.

ALSO...and as well.. don't miss this Thursday's screening of POMEGRANATES "Like A Phoenix From The Ashes" at Lincoln Center celebrating the release of Pomegranates, a compilation of Persian folk, funk, and psychedelia curated by Mahssa Taghinia. Some formal info on the evening/flick below.
Finders Keepers/B-Music U.S. and Film Comment Summer Meltdown team up here to present a rare screening of the full-throttle, genre defining granddaddy of Ozploitation cinema for one night only. Sandy Harbutt's 1974 Australian Biker-Psych auteur cult classic takes key ingredients from across the exploitation cinema palette and concocts a heady brew of Bikesploitation, Drugsploitation and Satanic Cultism for this celluloid milestone, which proceeded the likes Mad Max (while donating half of its cast) by half a decade.
The evening will be bookended with the U.S. debut of Finders Keeper's Andy Votel's Cock Diesel biker-psych DJ/VJ club night which blends vintage global motorcycle-music (Global Cock Rock / Bikers OSTS / Full Throttle Fuzz / Power-Bike-Psych) with custom built footage from a life-long library of international biker b-movies. For this one-off event Andy will be joined by WFMU’s Brian Turner and Mahssa Taghinia (B-Music U.S). Take The Trip.
SEE you there soldiers.

Back from a serious dream trip in one of my favorite cities, Paris. Wanted to share this little horizon of the Eiffel tower and a perfect crescent moon peering out of my hotel room looking like a storybook illustration. I did not have the opportunity to hear this song while gazing at the heavy scene, but if I did-I'd be bawling in life reflection tears! Thanks for sharing this whopper jam Z and also sending gratitude vibes to Skye at DOSSIER for this rad piece on our collaboration with Nightwood! click HERE.

07/08: Gene Clark The Force- 2 Hours of Wisdom

FRIENDS!

It's been a while since I've thrown some wisdom your way-- no better time to make a comeback than to celebrate the release of Rotter and Friends' new Gene Clark T-shirt!
Gene Clark is a force. There's nothing I can say about the man that a few Googles can't uncover (for those unfamiliar with Gene and his music, allow ME but what I CAN do for you folks is to pull all my Gene (and Gene-era Byrds) records off the shelves and mix you up a little career retrospect (much in the style of my John Martyn tribute from earlier this year). This is in no way definitive-- just me hitting record, spinning my faves and making it up as I go along...I hope you dudes enjoy the jams...(Warning: anyone who's given No Other a spin or two knows how heavy these late-era jams can get...if you're an easy crier-- consider this mix NSFW! (Nothing is weirder than crying at a cubicle into tupper-ware'd homefood.)

07/02: Rotter Portfolio Party
Category: Rotter and Friends | Posted by: Team | Add comment
FRIENDS.
It has taken a strong while but thanks to the help of web lord Dan Schechter, my new PORTFOLIO site is up, live, and in color on the INTERNETS. -champagne bottle pops!- The site is a retrospective of the past decade of my drawings, paintings, wood burns, projects, and critters that have all been created straight from the heartstrings.
I must admit, I got a little teary eyed going through some of the early pieces/paintings, and especially all of the six seasons we've done so far with Rotter and Friends, whose collections are all archived and displayed as galleries on the site. I also got nostalgic and held my heart tight going through the old illustrations created for Birdie, a London-based label I was an "artist in residence" with, for about 6 years founded by my golden mate and style icon Nick Wakeman, for whom I salute for helping to ignite the ride. Birdie was the first outlet where the musical scribble salutes took place that included Grace Jones, Elton John, Dolly Parton, and Freddie Mercury and can be found in the archive section.
Heres to the backs and the forwards-I hope something within this world makes you beam or hopefully inspire. Clicketh HERE.

Wishing mojito and peacock ore'd vibes.
